I've never followed the meta, I got so tired of seeing the same perks every round. The only real "meta" ones I used were BT and Spine Chill. I LOVE Alert, Lithe (better than Dead Hard, fight me) and Aftercare and EVERYONE takes a big snooze on them. All of those have helped save my ass and teammates (because I saw what they were doing with Aftercare) a bunch of times. Shadow Step is good, I run it on my Mikaela's Boon Build.

I would say other hella underrated perks are
1: Plunderer's instinct: good for finding items in game without spending blood points in the bloodweb.
2: Lightweight: having your scratch marks disappeared faster can be good for escaping killers easier and it's gonna be buffed soon. POG
3: The pebble: if used in a smart way it can destroy killer minds and make them waste time.
Edit: I used this 3 this perks for years and still nowadays :)

Sooo, my partner and I were inspired to do your Breakout swf build to the best of our ability. We basically had three chasers and a gen jocky. My friend Max and I are Rank 1s, my partner Is rank 3, and our gen jocky is an Ash 1 that's pretty good at the game. I was the Setup/Chaser. I ran Break Out, Saboteur, Boon Circle of Healing, and Exponential. The other chasers kept changing their builds but always had Break Out and Soul Guard equipped.
So we go to Preschool but forget the Bloodied Bloodpoint offering, yet we got lucky with RNG and got Pinhead... Needless to say, we lost at one gen. He kicked the boon twice, earning two hooks as a result(I'm the only one with Saboteur in every game), but then he killed my partner and proxy-camped me and my friend Max while we were hooked behind Preschool. The gen jocky: Wolf thinks that we're dead and plays for hatch WHILE WE'RE STILL ALIVE. He was injured, possessed, and died. The box made Max drop her toolbox, and my partner died early game because he got hooked before I could set up the boons.
We tried again and equipped the correct offerings this time, I got a better boon location and a Ghostface. We destroyed the poor guy, so he DCed when the gates were powered. No hooks, no fails, so it was the perfect game.
Next, we get a Wraith on RPD. As soon as we went upstairs(inside the library), he shook his head at us and remained in a corner while cloaked for the rest of the game.
We got a Trapper but forgot the Bloodied Blueprint again... He destroyed us in the basement(School), so we played one more round for vengeance!
I ran out of Preschool offerings, so my team spent 30 minutes trying to find a survivor that has a decent build and the offering. In the end, Max became the new Setup with the two boons, the map offering, and Dead Hard and Overcome. I replaced my boons with Flip Flop and Soul Guard. And my partner brought a flashlight for this game because he wanted to?.
We got a Huntress and the correct offerings. The Huntress follows me and Max into Preschool immediately and goes after us. I distract the killer while Max boons the totem for it to instantly get snuffed. This scenario repeats, so Max gets hooked twice and is close to bleeding out for being slugged the longest without the boon. My partner is injured and Wolf stopped doing gens to help the team because the boon is gone. So I loop the killer outside of preschool to let my team reset. I get hooked, then we all get downed in Preschool with the boon up. Wolf runs in and loops the killer while we reset again! I tell my team to do the gen in Preschool, and I found another gen at 85%. I completed it and looped the huntress in Preschool while healthy. My team gets the gate open and sabotages every hook around the building. We get the 4-man escape and call it a night. The build is cracked!!?
(The flashlight was useless and shouldn't be used in this build. It got my partner downed too many times and wasn't used successfully once!) Have a good day Demi! <3

My fiancé runs kindred religiously and I don't blame him. I play more than him, so I don't get left on hook often since I have more experienced survivor's to play with, but when we swf, I love that he puts on kindred cause I can see everyone else and I get wallhacks if I'm looping near him on hook. It's so nice.

I actually like self - aware and use it on my Meg with a running build. It actually came in clutch multiple times in a 40 minute game against a Bubba on RPD and pretty much saved me from being noticed and needing to use sprint burst. A good perk!
