@phillvallace2025/01/04(土) 09:47
Swamp Biome I think has top place for me for just being able to be the most chaotic with the amount of enemies within it, which adds so much more to the boss fight, wish the other bosses had more enemies fighting with them as thought Yagluth might've summon an undead army of Fulings for example
@riangonzaga24202025/01/08(水) 10:03
I feel like the mountains should be ranked way lower, while the caves are cool the actual biome is terrible, it's worse to climb than the Mistlands, drakes have terrible target priority, their raid is a pain because they go after your tamed animals and base structures more than they attack you, and you get no defense against airborne enemies at that point besides bows, should come before the swamp because you get undead slaying weapons that you never really get any use out of, since the only Undead after the Mountaisn is Yagluth and it´'s much better to use black metal weapons on him, and finally silver is by far the worst resource to farm in the entire game until you get the Ashlands portals, i´d put it as the absolute worst part of the game, agree with the rest though even the Mistlands being first.
@MrJontheStallion2025/01/08(水) 06:18
this list is invalidated by the mistlands placement alone. by far the worst biome. you mention dying to fall damage in the mountains? i dont think thats ever happened to me once. in the mistlands however, you can barely even see most of the time with the item thats meant to give you vision. horrible biome
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:04
your list is invalid
@YokeTB2025/01/08(水) 05:54

@boogeyratt2025/01/08(水) 05:17

@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:08
i dig it too. pretty chill
@Jalbesbe2025/01/08(水) 04:40
The plains has a dungeon in the sealed tower. The first non instance based dungeon in the game that also has the most unique and difficult way to enter it.

Also you forgot to mention the abomination in the swamp as that is a pretty sick enemy as you're running along and a tree suddenly flips out from the water
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:10
pretty uncommon though the sealed tower and yes abominations are cool
@corentinboxho2025/01/08(水) 04:24
I mostly agree with your ranking: Mistlands is definitely the best biome! So many new fun things, including the best item in the game for me: the feather cape! It's also the first biome where not everything is hostile: Dvergr are friendly if you don't attack them or their things (let the gjall do it! LOL). This game really lacks friendly npc overall.
The only change I'd make to your ranking: I think the Swamp is better than the Mountains! The spawn rate for golems and drakes is way too high, they are so annoying, and silver is also the most annoying metal to acquire because you can't "troll mine" it like copper, nor find a bunch of it in boxes like iron... And funny thing: a cabin in one of those indestructible Swamp trees is more secure than a stone castle in the Mountains because stone is like butter for those damn golems! 🙄
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:10
glad you agree!
@prog18532025/01/08(水) 08:23
I tend to throw mountains in the top three for me. Great soundtrack, best views, two armor sets, both are drip and effective, frostnir, good cheap arrows with obsidian arrows, frost caves, and the mini boss is pretty fun. Fuck bats though

The Mistlands drove off so many Valheim players. I can't get my group of friends to play the game at all any more. So at this point, you're not going to hear much from people who dislike the Mistlands and its ranking going to become a confirmation bias choice.

@Justin_Leone2025/01/07(火) 10:12
Pleasantly surprised to see soo much love for the Mistlands. I get the frustrations people have with it, but delving into the mist always feels like an adventure. Between the scattered visibility and difficult terrain, traveling small distances can feel like a long journey, but the atmosphere, from the art design to the implied lore to the somber soundtrack, really make it stand out in comparison to the more mundane (albeit beautiful in their own right) biomes that precede it.

I think I would rank the Ashlands a bit higher (definitely ahead of the swamp, and maybe ahead of the mountains) for similar reasons as the Mistlands. It's just so bleak and imposing, but so full of personality, and so rewarding, but otherwise I think this ranking is pretty much spot on.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:22
the mistlands has really grown on me! and fair enough, i think you can easily justify ashlands over the swamp
@socketman2025/01/07(火) 05:44

It makes sense that the same people in these comments who hate the mistlands love the plains. The plains have almost no content, just barren grasslands with sparse 3 hut “villages”
and tar puddles. So it makes sense that they’d be appealing to the lowest common denominators in the community.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:08

@fev0r2025/01/07(火) 11:06
The Mistlands are kinda cool concerning resources and the dungeons are pretty cool. The turndown for me is simply the fucking mist. I would have loved some mechanic to get rid of the mist by installing whisp lamps or something like that (i just found out that this actually exists, but 12 m radius is a joke).
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 07:42

Let me add something for Meadows since it's my favorite base biome... People says meadow is lack of content and has less to offer... Dude Meadow is literally the tutorial biome... How could you expect a challenge from a tutorial... And yes, Meadow teaches a lot of essential things for newbies... Let me break it.
1. Like mr. Spazzy says in this video, there is some resources that we can't access before progressing. Same as we can't chop fine woods with stone or flint axes. Meadow already told us to upgrade our tools everytime the new one is available.
2. Meadow teaches us basic combat, for boars and necks is aggressive, and most of the time they come in group that let us learn how to fight a group of enemies. Also we can learn how to time basic parry here.
3. Deers is non aggressive and elusive animal, yet necessary for progression... Since it's the case, we learned to sneak and do long range combat. Either of them is very useful in later stages of the game. We learned that when we do crouch and sneak, it will make us hard to find by enemies, which very useful for dungeon. And after we try long range combat, either bow or spear, both have dropping projectiles... So we learn how to be precise at aiming with long range weapon, which is very useful.
4. Basically Meadow teaches us basic survival skills needed to progress. Like hunt for food, basic cook and craft, the fact that crafting tables need to be upgraded etc.

Meadow might be the most boring biome for experienced players, but let's not forget that this biome told us so many essentials in this game, So that after this many tutorials we are ready for the first real challenge, which is Black Forest. Thanks for reading 😊

In it's current state I would not rank Mistlands that high but with some of the mitigations, it could go much higher in my book. Primarily it doesn't deserve as much credit precisely because there is no mist mitigation mechanisms. So unless one is playing some jump scare game, it heavily violates one of the first gaming principles, that of good visual feedback or the means to mitigate poor visual feedback when it sucks.
As supporting evidence, I don't search Mistlands by "discovery," I search it by looking at the mini map and seeing which way I'm going and what fog I have yet to uncover because that's the only way to properly find everything, and it is just not as fun to game that way.
@fairnooks70472025/01/07(火) 09:49
@@SpazzyjonesGaming Right, it's not so much a beef for me though, more like it needs something like you said, to polish it off, add a little more player gratification/achievement. 9th place is The Ashlands there is just too many mobs and they deal too much damage and there is huge lava lakes which are frustrating to navigate around. 8th place goes to Deep north just because there is nothing i will put it higher than ashlands because atleast its peaceful 7th place is ocean its literally just water,fish,serpent and big floating rock mob. 6th place is Mistlands because you cant see its hard to navigate because of the terrain and when you are playing at 2am and hear the gjall horn sound you know youre cooked 5th place is Swamp youre always wet and you cant navigate in the water because of the leeches and when you doont go to the water you get poisoned by blobs and oozers. 4th place is Mountains because its bit hard to navigate and the eggs weight 200kg EACH and Mountains just are so short because you get so much silver from one vein and if youre playing solo you need probably like only 2-4 veins of silver and Moder is bit frustrating but it has the best music in the game 3rd place goes to Meadows its great introduction to the game for starters but it doesnt have that many things to do at the end but overall not a bad biome 2nd place goes to Plains it has a perfect balance of peace and war and the music is great only bad thing i can think about are the tar pits they are annoying sometimes 1st place goes to Black forest it has a bit too much war in my liking but the mobs are fairly easy so that compensates for the many enemies then there is great music you can find haldor great guy then you can get the yoga suit from the big bad blue man only criticism i can find is that mining copper can get frustrating because you need it so much overall valheim is a great game and im curiously waiting for the deep north update before they announced that deep north will be the last biome i thought they would rework the ocean and make like a underwater city or something so ocean would also be a biome with a boss then i also thought what if they make a city on top of the yggdrasil root in the sky so that would have been cool but greetings from Finland and i hope you do well at your channel and in life overall you deserve more than 15,5k subscribers❤

I strongly disagree with you about the mistlands. Whilst the design is cool and unique: The endless arrow spongie gjalls, aggressive seekers that dive bomb you from sometimes nowhere, the accidentally pissing off dvergers, the insane amount of fog that rarely clears and is always a pest, the extremely annoying terrain you must climb (ive died from fall damage more here than the mountains) EASILY make this the worst biome. Just finding any kind of dungeon for boss spawning materials has made me quit several times. The dungeons are really cool dont get me wrong, but EVERYTHING else absolutely blows. I dont care what anybody else says but plains is goated for me.

I do agree with one point in particular about the meadows: it's good for a biome to have things you can't use until later. I sincerely wish new biomes brought recipes and build pieces that required old ingredients a bit more so things like our boar breeders and carrot farms didn't feel so superficial in the face of newer content.

@SekiberiusWelkesh2025/01/05(日) 09:01
Mine is

8- Ocean; There's pretty much nothing there, unfinished biome that will hopefully get a complete overhaul one day.

7 - Ashlands; Simply unfun, buggy, mob spam. Performance is abominable here, the grind is horrific and every second I spent in this biome was a second I hated my existence.

6 - Mistlands; Simply unfun, too much mist, too much elevation, water everywhere and without mods in solo your inventory will clog in moments in this biome as there's SO many items. The biome is visually appealing however and the ambiance is amazing, I just wish they added mechanics to the game to compliment this biome, like a grappling hook and a swimming system overhaul.

5 - Black Forest; Not really a whole lot going on here, other than Burial Chambers and Trolls there isn't much this biome offers in terms of gameplay other than farming copper, tin, thistle, blueberries and core wood. Wish it had more content than just being a farming biome as the biome does have nice atmosphere but after I'm past copper I never have any drive to come back.

4 - The Meadows; A great starter biome, not a whole lot going on because there's not supposed to be, beautiful and peaceful, great place to peacefully build bases, wish it had more wildlife.

3 - Mountains; A good initial challenge, have to deal with the cold to survive and have to watch out for ambushes, has my favorite caves in the game and I find exploring the biome to be fun, silver being buried under the ground is an interesting mechanic and challenge, could use more content like mountain goats and a crystal cave to farm crystals.

2 - Swamp; Has a metric ton of content compared to the Meadows and Black Forest, the biome is both easy and difficult, easy once you know what you're doing and hard if you don't, the Hoe will be your best friend here. I like the atmosphere, like the enemies, I think it has the perfect level of challenge. I like this biome because it teaches you by punishing you for not using everything at your disposal, this biome teaches you the importance of Meads. The only issue with this biome is the crypts, which I think need a complete rework as they're quite buggy with broken pathfinding and encourage unholy amounts of cheese. Wish it had giant toads, because toads.

1 - Plains; Pretty much Meadows 2.0, enemy camps and raiding parties everywhere, giant bugs, giant pillars, Lux, lots of new cool items and my favorite part of the biome, Tar pits, I think its mechanics are one of the coolest things in the game. Wish there was a dungeon or something like it in this biome, perhaps even more wildlife creatures.

When youve acclimated to this game and know what to expect the mistlands is still a challenge and i welcome it. People who bitch about mistlands are neither vikings nor worthy of a seat in valhalla. Vikings dont just crush odins enemies, they overcome their enemies home terrain. Vikings never have the homecourt advantage.

Personally, I think the wisp should try and stick in front of you as much as possible as the main reason I find the mist annoying in the Mistlands is waiting for the wisp to get into a decent position to clear it. Perhaps, even, the wisp should just float around you so the mist clears more consistently.
I think I agree with you on changing Bronze to only require 1 copper and 1 tin, as that grind can be extremely off-putting when you start out.

@DJ_Bonebraker2025/01/05(日) 05:32
Hard disagree with you on the Mistlands. I rank it near the bottom because of the cliffs & fog. IMO, Iron Gate should take a few notes from Keen's playbook & make the fog in the mistlands more like the shroud in Enshrouded, where it limits visibility without making it too obstructive. Also, speaking of Enshrouded, another thing Iron Gate could learn from Enshrouded is to make magic accessible earlier in game. I like to play mages in most fantasy games I'm in, and you got to get through 2/3 of the game in Valheim to even have access to your first magic stuff, whereas I managed to loot some random bones immediately after leaving the Cinder Vault in Enshrouded, crafted my first wand & never looked back. Finally, another thing that would mitigate the annoying terrain somewhat is if Valheim improved its combat system, since like 9 times out of 10 my attacks miss seekers that are only slightly below me in elevation, because apparently Iron Gate hasn't figured out how to make it so that you can target melee attacks at enemies at slightly different elevations (even though said enemies don't have this issue) along with what has to be the most janky archery mechanics of any game I have ever played makes the Mistlands a pure chore where I only dip in long enough to extract whatever resources I need then GTFO before some Gjall or Seeker Soldier or other annoying baddie comes out of the mist to ruin my day...

Exploring the mistlands was a big challenge when the content was released and after acquiring the ashland's best gear it's still quite risky to venture into the mist. So yeah, it's a good biom and one thing I noticed about it is the unique graphics. The mistlands somehow look better than any other biome, sharper, more detailed textures and objects and landscape.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:16

@CaemmYsWoed2025/01/05(日) 11:37
IMO ocean should be a biom that gradually scales in dificulty. Based on distance from Sacred Stones should be more and more threcherous (and rewarding):
More serpent spawns
Occasional small island/rock/shipwreck with flying creatures (vulture-like). Visible from afar, but deadly if unprepared.
Stronger winds and bigger waves, and bigger effect on ships (take damage over time if the ship leans too much)
And my biggest problem with ships is that they are balanced around using portals for everything except metal. They should have 4x cargo capacity if you disable protals in options.
I'd also love some side-grades in ship choice:
Byrding - extra cargo space, but slow rowing
Snekkja - small, fast rowing, manoeuvrable
Knarr - best cargo space, slow rowing
Skeid - very long and clunky, but the fastest both rowing and sailing
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:22
thats a super great suggestion! The larger the radius from the stones the more difficulty

Oooo I can smell this video is controversial. Here's my thoughts: Personally, I think the mountains are top 5, and since I'm not fully done with the ashlands, I can't rate it, but IMO, plains and swamp are the two worst biomes excluding deep north and ocean, swamp being nicely summed up in the video and plains because once you fight 2-3 camps, or more likely snipe everything off, you kind of sit at your base and do nothing. I appreciate the invitation to work on my base and do side quests, but I think a better time the game is convincing you to stay at home is something like the black forest, witch adds your first new crafting stations, core wood, and portals, and subtly encourages you to expand your base, while plains just starves you unil you do something you might not want to or get bored waiting for barley. To grow. Also, deathsqitos attack sailors witch sucks
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:44
Nice thoughts. thanks for sharing!
@sane64122025/01/05(日) 07:39
I feel like ocean does not need that much of a change. Maybe adding some kind of lootable Islands with new enemies and loot etc.., by doing so some current biomes could be replaced. The amount of current biomes do not fit properly to the map's scale, so by adding some islands / other things to ocean would (maybe) balance things out, whilst adding new content.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:02

The only change i would do to bronze is make it so the amount of ingots you put in is equal to what you get out. To craft 5 bronze, you put in 5 tin and 10 copper, i believe. That math doesn't math properly. 5 =/= 15. It should be 15 bronze for the same price as 5 bronze in the current game. Then black forest is perfect
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:00
id be down for that
@OrchidAlloy2025/01/05(日) 06:29
Ashlands is epic with its theme, visual effects, fortress raiding, and weapons. Sadly I simply can't enjoy it with the absurd number of enemies you encounter. It wouldn't be an issue if they didn't respawn so fast, making traversal a total chore.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:38
thats fair. there are great arguments to be made in favor of the ashlands
@OrchidAlloy2025/01/05(日) 06:26
I like the Mistlands a lot. The mist is annoying, but the atmosphere + terrain + colors are beautiful. I adore the unique resources in mining ancient giants' brains, as well as their bones and yggdrasil sap. The structures and NPCs are cool, and the introduction of magic is pretty fun too.

I'd love to see a herb introduced in the mountains that could be used later for preparing eitr foods. As the game stands right now, once you've collected all the silver and fenris hair you need, there's not much need to ever revisit the mountains. I also think there needs to be 1 more hostile creature there, just for a little bit more variety.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:16
oooh yeah. something growable in the mountains would be nice
@orclord57192025/01/05(日) 04:36
12:50 completely disagree. Mistland is the sole reason i stopped playing for a while, nefore ashlands. I would come back, just to play up intil, then start a new seed. There needs to be a way to permanently remove mist where i explore. The wisp belt should essentially eat the mist. I play only solo and before world modifiers, it was almost impossible.
@orclord57192025/01/08(水) 03:57
@SpazzyjonesGaming  only modified i like to mess with, is resiurce drops because I play solo. Sooo many runs I'll have to explore several mountains for a single silver vein. I love the exploration but damn, gets tough haha I just beat a 2 star troll yesterday with my bronze gear. Normal difficulty so was a challenge. Died like 5 times
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:43
lower the difficulty with the world modifiers!
@orclord57192025/01/05(日) 04:19
I strongly disagree with 8 being the Ocean. The ocean is what connects you to your first landing. First time finding plains, the glory of relaxing as waves hit your boat, or a storm throws you around. The ocean is the blood, if you will, that bridge these islands and experiences together

i like them all too. even the swamp
@Fishpasta42025/01/05(日) 04:05
1. Black Forest - The sheer amount of unlocks that directly open up other areas of the game that all following biomes build off of. Also using trolls to mine nodes completely invalidates the first boss which is hilarious.
2. Mistlands - Introducing Magic into the game, a phenominal soundtrack, new weather patters, the introduction of a non-hostile NPC faction. The mist can be annoying but only adds to the rush when you find something or when enemies emerge from it.
3. Meadows - The place where everything starts and where you most likely will build your main base before starting an end game base in the plains. It's the foundation that all the rest of the game is built on. Would be higher if there was actually something challenging to complete here.
4. Plains - The meadows but with a difficulty spike with a good range of enemies though the lack of a dungeon is a bit of a let down. A great place to set down an end game base.
5. Swamp - The first time you will actually think to use meads and where the game starts to get properly challenging. Iron is a pain to get but is rewarding when you have it. Great range of hostiles to fight from leeches in the water, skeletons & dragur on land, wraiths in the air and the memorable encounters with Abominations.
6. Ashlands - Has a phenomenal entrance with epic music, a new water based hostile mob but when you hit the mainland it's just a slog of constant enemy spawns, resource grinding and terrible performance if more than one person is there.
7. Mountains - The place you go when you need to unlock gear to survive in the plains. A good range of hostiles but ultimately not a place you stay in for a great amount of time. Find silver, find a 2 star wolf, craft the gear and then you're gone.
8. Ocean - The only reason you go here is to get to somewhere else which it itself invalidated by the unlocking of portals, especially the new Ashlands portal that can now transport previously blocked items. It's an obstacle instead of a biome.
-- Deep North - Cannot be graded as it isn't in the game yet, basically just the mountain biome at this point.

The mistlands would have been better if they had mist that came and went. Like a storm or something. To where at least half the time it would be clear. The mistlands was one of the more exiting biomes that’s for sure.

I like the Black Forest most though.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:47

@machewitt2025/01/05(日) 02:40
Tbh i would rate black forest lower. Although relaxing to play, I think the greydwarfs designs are too similar to the greylings. The lack of taming animals, the bronze/copper grind, felt a little tedious. The environment didn't feel eerie enough as a step up. During my first playthrough I remember just wandering into the black forest without fear.

The swamp on the otherhand was such a step up but I really like how you are rewarded for venturing out into different play styles. Cooking, potions, different weapons, approach towards the enemies etc. I do agree a item to prevent the wet debuff would be so good. Maybe a potions or part of the root armour set/set bonus.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:01

@fackingcopyrights2025/01/05(日) 02:29
mistlands is the worst biome. cant see anything even with the light thing and the high mountains are just terrible, the other biomes are fine altough they should reduce the spawn rate in ashlands
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:26

@meriwidget34742025/01/05(日) 02:12
I enjoy the MIstlands, but admit I have an addon that increases the range on my wisp light. My favorite to least favorite would probably go Meadows (music and chill of it, and best place to build), Mountains (sad we don't spend more time there), Mistlands, Plains, Swamp and Black Forest. I hate getting constantly overrun by Grey Dwarves, it's just so annoying.
Edit: I forgot Ashlands, it'd be between Swamp and BF for me, the tediousness of constant adds spawning is .. rough. But the boss battle places it above BF.

@peterjohannsen36102025/01/05(日) 01:02
Personally I think mistlands is conceptually the best biome but two things would keep it from being the top.

1) It's likely the biome that varies the most with how well or badly it's generated. A badly generated one will be the most infuriating place you'll ever set foot in. I've seen vast stretches that consist of over 90% cliffs and water with absolutely zero points of interest and a horrid basis for combat where enemies just bug out (haha) on terrain or half the weapons simply don't work. On the other hand the bigger connected landmasses create the most gorgeous views and tense moments you'll ever experience.

2) While magic is a cool and unexpected introduction, it just completely breaks the balance of the game and actively just breaks all established rules. Ashlands had to be balanced with weapons of mass destruction in mind (which is why the whole landing process is so busy) and still fails at this with all the new magic being either even more busted than before or just irrelevant sidegrades that don't do much beside looking cool.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:43
really underappreciate point number 1. Completely agree
@bigfatparasite2025/01/05(日) 12:53
Ashlands is really deep and the music mixed with the undead and sinister feeling makes you feel uneasy and not welcomed. They did an amazing job on the atmosphere of this biome, but it still is my least favorite because it’s way too difficult to get through. My 2 favorite biomes are the mountains and the plains because I really enjoyed progression in those biomes and they also had a amazing atmosphere. On the other hand, Ashlands is hell. Literally.
@tmonkey33232025/01/05(日) 11:04
the increased difficulty also adds to the atmosphere
@ArlongSun2025/01/05(日) 12:49
Disagree with Mistland as #1. It caused me to rage-quit 2 years ago as a single player. Stupid 2-star seeker corpse camped body in a very difficult valley. The mist is just too thick. If they adjusted the mist or made the area of "light" bigger. The Swamp and Mountains never really bothered me- they were the right level of difficulty ramp up. I do like the additions of the abominations and the frost caves since I have returned. Plains are fine too, once I got use to the goblins.

1 Black Forest
2 Mountains
3 Swamp
4 Plains
5 Meadow (Nothing wrong with it, just boring at higher levels)
6 Ashlands (Enemy density brings this one down)
7 Mistlands
8 Deep North
9 Ocean

@edgybravo42872025/01/05(日) 12:00
Mistlands sucks it's the only biome I disliked it's hard for the wrong reasons. Visibility should be 5x with the wisp then maybe it would be better. Ashlands is better than mistlands you can build sick bases inside those impenetrable fortresses. Me and two buddies did a full play through when Ashlands was in beta and sailing into Ashlands for the first time was absolute insanity top 10 gaming moment for me. The feel of the entire game changes it was something special and to experience it for the first time with to other buddies was beyond hype. I died like 5 times before we made a stable base luckily one of my friends were able to put down a portal or it could have been disastrous if I was solo. Imo black forest is by far the best biome overall it's a step up in difficulty from meadows but it's not unfair and it introduces some cool concepts like mob factions.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:37
That's a really great point about the visibility in the Mistlands!

I think the ocean could use a very rare boss encounter, like a kraken along with more mob spawns, feels empty with the rare serpent. Something you can run from or fight if you want. Also, give us more boat options, first in mind would be variations of boats. A boat that's faster with less cargo space, a boat that has more cargo space but slower, a boat with more hp but less cargo space.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:19
love that idea!
@chase70782025/01/04(土) 11:04
Swamps this low on your list? Really!? Swamps is an incredibly well designed biome. The abominations are one of the coolest monsters in the game. The Atmosphere does an excellent job giving you that gloomy, eerie vibe. You don't like the wet debuf? Boo hoo! It's a brutal survival game for a reason and the wet debuf is a unique and well thought out mechanic. Also you're putting down the swamps audio design like that? You wouldn't know good audio if it slapped you in the face. I'm disappointed.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:35
i agree its well designed but I just don't like it that much
@Deceiver852025/01/04(土) 10:59
1. Black Forest - This is Valheim in one biome! Iconic enemies, dungeons, trader, music, resources and the best visuals, period.

2. Plains - Meadows on steroids and with sepia filter. The no1 place for bases, yours and fulings.

3. Meadows - The gateway drug to Valheim.

4. Ashlands - The first biome that gave me a REAL challenge (not counting the mental challenge of Mistlands zero visibility).

5. Mountains - Beautiful and best dungeons.

6. Mistlands - Dude, where's my cart?

7. Swamp - Wet debuff combined with grind.

8. Ocean - Lack of content, but great music.

9. Deep North - Lack of content.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:45

@HviTuLVeR2025/01/04(土) 10:57
I will just say I started loving the game, as it felt like being a real Viking, building, exploring and fighting (I would say I miss fighting other humans, but not into that I. This comment). To the point. Mistlands, is making me wanna quit the game. I'm about to beat the Queen, then off to Ashlands (doing the game solo since beginning), and I read Ashlands is hell compared to Mistlands. My point here is, I loved how chill but challenging play this game was, but getting to a place where u can't see, need to move vertical with a stamina not designed for that, specially when u get surrounded when climbing, and having to go back to get your stuff, making you build a new wisp, is beyond annoying. Since I arrived to Mistlands, game doesn't look like Valheim anymore, it turned into some weird Elden Ring shit. I think it would be better to stick to what they were doing before these two last content. Make a challenging, but beautiful and chill game to play. Since Mistlands, its not chill and beautiful anymore. But hey, that's just my opinion. I might be an old fuck for this kind of content already :)
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:41
sorry mistlands makes you feel that way
@TheNoobMaster_662025/01/04(土) 10:44
Might be a long comment, but I think I got a point. Something that always made Valheim stand out is an eerie and atmosphere, unease/fear of the unknown. Being able to shelter yourself in safer places creates a very accomodating relief even after many playthroughs. Minecraft used to have this feel when nobody understood the game a decade and a half ago, and Valheim managed to bring this rare feeling back.

I agree with your placement of Ashlands. It could've been a perfect biome if it was more desolate as shown in the trailers, each encounter building a sense of anticipation. Unfortunately, too many npcs rush to trouble you on your first encounter. You simply don't have time to process your thoughts. This is Doom series, not Valheim. It also missed out on the opportunity to do more storytelling.

Mistlands was spot on. I wasn't sure I was playing Valheim when I first saw a Seeker soldier ambush a Dvergr settlement. The game was once again shrouded in mystery, and I had to discover a new world with its own lore. It's very low on npc density, but you spend time building up a sense of caution.

Swamps is something I disagree with for this exact reason. I think that the biome is a bit underexploited in terms of features, but the fact that you have to travel by boat and don't know what to expect from such a gloomy biome for the first time makes it excellent. Personally, I built most of my bases in the swamps. I really enjoy being shielded right in front of danger.

@@TheNoobMaster_66 i agree with you on some things, but personally i never had issues with building in the ashlands or with there being too many enemies, you just need to focus more on building defenses and being prepared; that brings me to the next point which is that building inside a fortress is not required or makes building elswhere pointless, its more like a reward which lets you finally build something that is easier to defend, but most of the time you will also need to build smaller outposts elswhere
and i dont get how you expect a game which attempts to be challenging to not be somewhat annoying, and i also prefer having fortresses instead of just another generic dungeon that the previous biomes already had only with different enemies and loot
@TheNoobMaster_662025/01/05(日) 07:42
@@edgybravo4287 I agree, you need a taste for hardcore to want fog in your Mistlands. I myself have modded it out as it is a significant tradeoff in both visibility and looks of the biome. If I were Irongate, I'd either make it optional in the settings or allow the player to gradually get rid of it, just like terraria allows you to get rid of corruption or crimson. Black Forest is definitely the most suitable biome for everything aside from its high instance count. It is most balanced in playtime, difficulty and features, and nothing feels out of place. Really wish Valheim was optimized to run 2-3x as efficiently, which I'm making the assumption it could under proper optimization.

I prefer not to watch walkthroughs so as to not spoil my experience, so my first way in was quite literally "rocky". Luckily I had at least 10 wood to constantly repair my ship. Otherwise I wasn't so sure I was going to make it at all.
@edgybravo42872025/01/05(日) 07:17
@@TheNoobMaster_66I didn't like mistlands. Tbh it's hard for all the wrong reasons. Fall damage, visibility, being wet etc. Fall damage can be remedies later with the cape but visibility is always an issue unless you're building torches consistently which is just annoying tbh. Black Forest is still by far the best biome imo. I like Ashland's outside of the performance and the constant flow of mobs. I agree with most his critiques about Ashland's but you cannot take away from how epic it was to sail into Ashland's for the first time. That is pure epicness.
@TheNoobMaster_662025/01/05(日) 04:45
@@voidtalongaming4637thanks for your input. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the developers stated many times how Black Forest, the ideal biome in their vision, was the inspiration for Ashlands. Unfortunately, rather than inspiration it seemed more of a cliché to follow. My observation is they took troll cave + burial chambers and turned it into the putrid hole whose key item is molten (surtling) cores and a morgen (troll). They took monuments of torment as Greydwarf spawn nests. I can see the intent was to make it slightly more challenging than the Black Forest by "scaling" the game towards endgame tiers of weapons , but it turned into a game of cheese mechanics due to how tanky, slow to kill and fast to allure the enemies are. The challenge of the biome is mitigating the constant pressure from pesky npc spam, which is not fun.

I haven't built anything in the Ashlands besides taming pens because my structures simply get destroyed as I have to deal with too many npcs in the process. The game doesn't incentivize building there as the materials are actually quite easy to get, (including fortress gemstones once you know how) and you can teleport anything. You are also allowed to build inside an indestructible fortress, which is the final deal-breaker to building.

Another thing to point out is the inventory. In case adding a seventh biome wasn't reason enough to tweak the inventory, they added numerous pointless decoration materials such as Askvin skeleton or charcoal sap.

Everything in the Ashlands is just annoying or *pointless*. Building a new ship is pointless due to the new portals. Sailing past pointy rocks for the first and only time is also just annoying. Dealing with npcs is feasible if you are prepared, but it's also just annoying trying to constantly leverage your stamina/eitr levels. Doing the same fortress over and over is annoying. Building is pointless for reason I stated earlier. Collecting the fire sword is pointless since gemstone weapons stand out over it. Managing your inventory is annoying.

Ultimately, developers have been extremely out of touch when it came to providing quality content. There's even rumours that they outsourced Ashlands development, which makes sense considering how spot on they were just an update earlier. I hope they rectify by reworking and, preferably, adding more depth to certain mechanics like they did with Bog Witch.

And to comment Mistlands stamina issue, I personally always used lightweight sets such as Fenris, was equipped with stamina meads, so I never found it to be a problem when I did proper pathfinding.
@voidtalongaming46372025/01/05(日) 01:36
Also add that the Putrid Hole was a massive disappointment compared to the Infested Mines and Frost Caves which are hands down the best dungeons. The Fortresses are a cool concept that after taking 1 down seems like they will be more slogs of kiting combat than other forms of challenge. The propensity of Ashlands to go from a combat with 1 Morgen into a Morgen, Askvin, 3 Twitchers, 2 Warriors and a Marksmen while a 2nd Morgen or Valkyrie is tromping its way over is... too common.

What is an otherwise beautiful biome and potentially interesting exploration is quickly brought down by how much combat there is. A more prevelant warring faction between those that guard Fiddleheads and Vines (Dvergr) and the Ashlands Charred could have been interesting but the 2 Dvergr are just destroyed by the Biome's powerful foes. Sadly unless you tame a 2* Askvin, they will die so fast in combat it's almost not worth taming (a common complaint I have with Tames).

My only gripe with Mistlands is the sheer number of "drain your whole stamina bar playing hippity-hoppity" cliffs there are. I feel the Black Forest does the best job of vertical mix ups and felt that a nice blend of more open areas with small hills (Meadows), more dense thickets (Black Forest) with marshy low-lands and high-cliffs (Swamps and Mountains) all shrouded in mists would have made Mistalands even better to explore and overcome.
@marcogorres32702025/01/04(土) 10:26
Okay fair point with mistlands. LOOK i am a Builder, I like to spend half my life building a farm me and my friends wont use At all THOUGH i like looking back at the things i build which the mistlands easily ruin due to the high amount of mist pockets
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:45
ah yeah. Im not a builder so I have a very different perspective
@Tetsumi1002025/01/04(土) 10:22
I'm in to Mistlands on my first character and (in the Plains) the Huntsman's Bow was practically game-changing. Suddenly I could wipe out Fuling villages without being mobbed. My Draugr Fang is now hanging on the wall gathering dust.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:19
hunstman bow is so underrated!
@zhshsG72025/01/04(土) 10:05
I'd rather the game stay simple on some biomes. The fact that the mountains are "empty" compared to the frustration of the swamp is good. The fact that the oceans are usually calm and let you enjoy the ride is also great, especially for the wife. Not everything needs to be packed with content like the BF, or be an unending battle like the ashlands. Variety is good.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:45
thats a good point. there is a good argument to be made for some simplicity
@JB-xl2jc2025/01/04(土) 10:05
I agree with everything I hear with the sole exception of swamp music being weak- I like all music in the game admittedly, but the primary sad leitmotif in the Swamp is amazing, it really drives home the feel of a once-proud civilization brought so low they don't even know who they are any longer.
@JB-xl2jc2025/01/08(水) 08:12
@SpazzyjonesGaming  You know, putting it that way I can definitely see where you're coming from. Because when I asked myself "Well what would you put below it", that's pretty tough, hah. Fair!
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 08:01
I like it all too but if I had to pick one to be the worst it would be swamp
@bean_felix27012025/01/04(土) 10:04
I absolutely love the mistlands because of the amazing feeling and the new exciting weapons they added
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:15
agreed
@kala4572025/01/04(土) 10:04
I think that one of the boss abilities should be able to clear the mist completely for the duration of it.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/08(水) 03:35
that would be cool
@puhbrox2025/01/06(月) 01:51
@@CaemmYsWoed yea you get big bug wings and are able to fly + clear mist would be a sweet ability reward for the Queen
@CaemmYsWoed2025/01/05(日) 11:21
Maybe not completely, but within really big radius (100m). Needs to be Queen or later.

Interesting opinion and good analyse.

My personnal rank is :

9) Deep north ; but I hope this will be the best.

8) Ocean ; beautifulll and chill, but maybe to much chill.

7) Meadows ; fun when it's your first game but become boring after few games imo, but agree with you with the fact about fine wood.

6) Ashlands ; not played yet, I really want to try it, but my friends have stopped before we reached it, can't wait to try but I see people don't really like this so... Hope it will be higher in my list.

5) Mistlands ; (sorry Spazzy) even if I don't really play magic weapons, I agree it's a good thing that they added this in the game. Also, as the two-handed hammers are my favorite weapon type, the demolisher is the pînnacle of it and therefore my favorite weapon. Nevertheless, i personnally found combats a bit boring and the visibility/climbing are even more imo. The boss fight is one of the worst I think.

4) Moutains ; dispite the deadly falls, this biome is really fun imo, and have one of the greatest weapon in the game, the iconic frostner. Agree with you, so sad that the boss combat is garbage.

3) Black Forest ; iconic biome, fantastic atmosphere, marvelouss trolls, first real weapons (including the wonderfull first two-handed hammers, the stagbreaker), acces to portals, absolutly perfect biome.

2) Swamp ; (don't know why people hates this biome) could have been my favorite, but the wet is too annoying. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is fantastic and as a fan of blunt weapons, combats are greats imo. And... well, as you know, the best armor and forsakenpower in the game. Also the accès of the fantastic iron sledge and not to forget the new witch bog update that I unfortunatly did not played yet.

1) Plains ; even if what I prefere in this game is probably unlocking and crafting news weapons and new armors, this biome is maybe the worst for this, but the combats, the bestiary, the atmosphere, the combat boss and every thing else are too good imo. And as you justly said, the gathering method by killing fu(e)lings is fantastic.
@SpazzyjonesGaming2025/01/07(火) 08:14
hahah I forgive your mistlands placement. Great list!
