Yes, halo SHOULD abandon more whacky armor pieces for more military style ones. Reach only had the ONE example of the "whacky" helmet with the "haunted" pilot variant, and that was a Halloween item that simply put a skull behind the visor of the already-existing helmet. the helmets, and the armor itself retained the tactical military customization overall.
But cat ear helmets that have no purpose being in the game, no lore behind them, no real reason in the lore or in general for their existence (they don't even have the psychological warfare effect that emile's helmet has), etc.
It also doesn't help that one of the main people working at 343/haloi who said they wanted more cat-ear helmets was an ex-concord developer. and if you look at that game's art style (or lack thereof) and how fast it crashed and burned, I too am against it.
Keep in mind when I say this following statement, that I have my "fursona" as profile picture, so if I say it, you know I'm not coming from a "lol furry=bad" standpoint:
Cat ears and other stupid armors absolutely DO NOT belong in halo. They don't increase creativity, they ruin it. If you were ordered to make additions to the mona lisa, you wouldn't use colors like hot pink and fluorescent yellow, because they do not fit the aesthetic.
One final thing: Making people pay for 2 colored armor when it's been a free thing since halo 2 is criminal and unnecessarily greedy. In fact, charging for any armor that isn't a brand new, original, halo infinite-premiering armor piece is criminal. The fact I can't even use the COLORS that i've always used since halo 2 (dark purple and gold) for free in infinite is just one of the reasons I will not play it.

I'm in a weird in between. Cause I will totally pay for a color, or cat ears, whatever I think looks cool, but I'll only pay for something once. Meaning once I get something I like i'm not going to change it unless I REALLY like it better. I picked up the Anubis helmet, cat ears, and a white and red color when they 1st respectively came out. I'm still using them to this day. Same with Fortnite I got the Drift skin maxed. So he's got the cool fox mask and pink lightning. It's objectively the best skin (imo). I have no need to buy anything else.
That said I do think there needs to be more unlockable customization in game. I'd give it at least all the grey and blue stuff should be unlocks.

But Infinite, especially the 'customisation situation', is done, it's not going to change. The last update was when they enabled cross-core for shoulder pads (never any gloves or knee pads) in the Spirit of Fire operation - in JANUARY 2024. I think the Cat Ears could've worked if they went all in on cutesifying it and said "This is the helmet(s) of a Spartan themes idol/idol group", or all in on militarizing it and instead said "This is high tech recon/comms helmet with antennae packed full of sensors/transmitters so as to not compromise the safety of the wearer in battle".

They're even going so far as to change 343i (which has Christian religious connotations) into something else to spite the fans, Christians and to further erase what Halo was to begin with.

It's interesting what you said about having civil discussion, because thier used to be a place that existed entirely for Halo fans to have that sort of discussions in the form of the Waypoint forums. Sure, they weren't perfect, but I had countless legitimately engaging debates and discussions on there, right up until the day 343 shut it down. I almost think it's intentional on 343's part to remove that more even keeled place where people could critique thier games civily, separate the community more make it harder for people to see through the bullcrap. Customizinf my armors color shouldnt be 10.99$ when in prior games it was free. I have this really nice armor set in Halo Infinite, it's just the issue I have with it, is alot of the armor peices that are in it, are locked behind a vault. Meaning I can no longer obtain them, and then some I have to pay for a stupid damn bundle for. A small amount of them, I can play to earn.

The core system is weird and overly organized. Players should have to pay for each individual aspect once if they want to use it(like a dollar for a primary color, 3 bucks for a shoulder pad or something)

The Chimera Core doesn't make your hitbox smaller or anything of the sort, it's just a slimmer visual frame. Hitboxes are global, so if you know your hotboxes, the slimmer frame isn't going to effect you.

The "cat ears" aren't even comparably close to Haunted or Hayabusa. They're nowhere near the same plane of existence. The reason why people aren't angry enough about the current status of Halo, is bc ACTUAL Halo fans have long left the franchise and only woke weirdos remain as parasites. No pun intended, since that would be an insult to the Flood.

I'm not gonna dis on player expression. If you wanna run around in cat ears in 2560 as a super soldier, more power to you, but I wanna see a lot more practical kit. Fleetcom honor guard shoulder pieces nail the aesthetic ceremonial and practical while also being a neat little reward for making it to Gold Colonel 1. I do hope Halo Studios and Microsoft revise their monetization and player progression. I will point to Titanfall 2 at their MTXs because of transparent pricing. I bought them years ago, no regrets about either because the game was and still is pretty spectacular. I just want Halo to be equally spectacular.

I stopped playing when I finished the half assed campaign. A few rounds of multiplayer I realized that we'll never get a DLC expansion for the story because, why spend 2-3 years working on a beloved IP that'll sell 40 dollars, when you could just put every colour on each item and charge 5-12 bucks for a weekend's worth of work.

I think the cat ears are fun if they give them some lore on how it enhances radar detection capabilities and looks stylish or something, but i kinda see the fear on how one small addition could lead to Niki Manaj being added.

Honestly just the ability to block fracture cores, or even just individual cores, would fix the preferred art style thing. It's not even unheard of for Halo, as MCC has the option.

You are correct that the main issue of the cat ears is that you need to buy them, if you could unlock them through some achievement or just as an easter egg, nobody would care. Also, to hear that the monetisation has somehow gotten even worse since the start is just depressing. I want to enjoy Infinite, it looks good and it plays good, but fuck me I am not paying half my paycheck into the game just to get a couple of shoulder accessories.

I am so glad that I got every spartan accessory I needed from the free Winter event thing. It is really fucked up how all this shit is paywalled for absolutely no reason. And people still buy it somehow. Everytime I join a game and see that fireteam intro cutscene, I am literally the only guy on the team remotely resembling a classic HALO spartan and not some neon samurai cat ear abomination.
